Job description

The M25 is one of our Flagship projects in the UK! It is the most used part of the UK Strategic Road Network with it seeing over 200,000 vehicles per day and it’s a critical infrastructure asset for personal and goods vehicles into and around our capital. The network includes around 800 structures and 5 tunnels, so it requires high levels of performance, constant improvement and repairs to keep it operating smoothly.

We’ve formed a Joint Venture project called Connect Plus Services (CPS) to work with our partners to widen, operate and maintain the M25 under a 30-year contract and we are looking for a Diversions Manager who will be responsible for implementing and managing the GG907 standard for diversion routes during planned works across the M25 network. This role involved overseeing entire diversion planning process form initial assessment through stakeholder liaison, route approval and post-implementation review. This role will require a balance between hands-on assessment and strategic management ensuring all diversion routes are safe, efficient and compliant.

Key responsibilities:

  • Manage the full closure process for carriageways as per planned works, including emergency and preferred route assessments.
  • Conduct assessments of proposed diversion routes, both through physical drive-throughs and virtual tools like video assessments.
  • Develop and maintain a library of previously used routes and update it based on recent assessments and stakeholder feedback.
  • Collaborate closely with local authorities and other stakeholders for alternative route planning and agreement.
  • Lead stakeholder liaison activities and address any issues arising from site or customer feedback regarding diversion routes.
  • Ensure that all diversion route drawings and assessments are accurately recorded and updated in the organizational systems.
  • Apply and adapt procedures for engaging with traffic authorities, particularly when changes to diversion routes are required.
  • Contribute to the development and implementation of system upgrades that support the GG907 standard, including standardizing storage for route assessments and detailed diversion plan drawings.
  • Monitor and review the performance of implemented diversion routes, including compliance with the Routine & Winter Service Code.
  • Continuously improve the diversion planning process based on practical experiences, stakeholder feedback, and data-driven insights.

Profile

  • Degree in a technical field or equivalent experience in traffic management or related areas.
  • Proficient in route assessment tools, including video assessment technologies, and knowledgeable about NRSWA.
  • Proven track record in managing multi-stakeholder projects, preferably in traffic or highway management.
  • Highly organized, able to manage multiple ongoing priorities and adapt to changing environments.
  • Proficiency in using virtual tools for route assessment, including video assessment technologies.
  • Experience in developing and utilizing a comprehensive library of diversion routes and assessments.
  • Skilled in liaising with multiple stakeholders, including local authorities, emergency services, and traffic authorities.
